Colin Cowherd calls Baker Mayfield ‘pudgy;’ Mayfield responds

Oklahoma-baker mayfield-colin cowherd-pudgy-not great athlete

Baker Mayfield is a Heisman Trophy winner, the quarterback of the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners and a record-setting player.

Colin Cowherd is a radio host that thinks Mayfield is a bum. All season long, Cowherd has relentlessly ragged on Mayfield’s ability.

Cowherd unleashed another salvo today, incensed that people are comparing Mayfield to quarterbacks like Drew Brees and Russell Wilson.

“Baker Mayfield isn’t in the same class in terms of IQ,” Cowherd said. “In terms of athletic ability, Russell Wilson is maybe the best athlete outside of Antonio Brown in the entire league. Baker Mayfield is a two-time walk-on. It’s the wrong comp.”

(At this point, astute readers will remember that Mayfield became the first walk-on to win the Heisman Trophy this year. He also finished with 310 yards and five touchdowns rushing and was second in the nation in total yards from scrimmage. But we continue!)

“Do not compare Baker Mayfield to Russell Wilson. Do not compare him to Drew Brees, who was also, in his prime, a remarkable athlete! His comp is Case Keenum. His comp is Chase Daniel, which is, a little pudgy, not a great athlete.”

Ah, right, Drew Brees! The noted mobile quarterback, who rushed for *checks notes* 100 yards fewer than Mayfield did over four years in college. Mayfield, one of the best quarterbacks in the country at throwing on the run, surely isn’t as good of an athlete as Brees.

Look at athletic, accurate throws like this:

Or this:

Imagine that guy trying to succeed in the NFL! Simply would never happen.

Cowherd’s strange fixation on Mayfield has not gone unnoticed. The Oklahoma quarterback himself gave a pretty simple reply:

As if he needed any more motivation.
