Clemson recruiting: Latest updates on the Tigers’ next class

Clemson football-Dabo Swinney-Clemson Tigers-Clemson recruiting

For the first time since football season started, there’s some tangible growth in Clemson’s recruiting class. The Tigers received a commitment from offensive lineman Jordan McFadden on Saturday, giving them 12 commitments in the class — the first time a member has been added since June.

And with the first-ever early signing period starting next week, that number stands to increase. A handful of guys who will be committing and signing when it opens on Dec. 20 are considering Clemson, so the Tigers could very well reel in a handful more by the time the week draws to a close.

Here’s where the Class of 2018 stands:

Where Clemson’s class ranks

Clemson’s class ranks second in the ACC and 14th in the nation. Although the Tigers have only 12 commitments, the class is headlined by 2 of the top recruits in the country — quarterback Trevor Lawrence and defensive end Xavier Thomas. The Tigers have 3 top-100 recruits, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

5 top uncommitted targets

  • 5-star WDE K.J. Henry, West Forsyth (Clemmons, N.C.): Henry canceled his final official visit — to Alabama — and his recruitment will come to a close next week when he decides during the early signing period. Clemson is the leader in the clubhouse.
  • 4-star CB Brendan ‘Bookie’ Radley-Hiles, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.): Bookie received an in-home visit from Dabo Swinney, but the favorites for one of the top uncommitted cornerbacks in the country are still Oklahoma and UCLA, although Florida has jumped back in as of late.
  • 4-star WR Justyn Ross, Central (Phenix City, Ala.): The top receiver in the state of Alabama is down to Clemson, Auburn and Alabama, but his decision won’t come until later, so the drama and tension won’t be resolved during the early signing period like a few others will.
  • 4-star RB Lyn-J Dixon, Taylor County (Butler, Ga.): Dixon, a former Tennessee commit, announced a final two of Clemson and Oklahoma State, with an official visit to Stillwater, Okla., scheduled for the weekend before the early signing period.
  • 5-star OL Cade Mays, Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic: Mays is Clemson’s priority on the offensive line, and the Tigers have got some momentum, especially after their in-home visit with him. Georgia’s probably the biggest competition here.
