Justyn Ross trims list of finalists to 3 schools

The race for the top receiver in the state of Alabama is heating up. Justyn Ross told Rivals’ Rob Cassidy that he’s only considering three schools, and the news is good on Clemson’s end.

Ross will be deciding from the two powerhouses in his state — Alabama and Auburn — along with Clemson.

The Tigers from South Carolina have been more or less viewed as the leader for a majority of his recruitment, especially early in the season as Auburn’s passing game struggled to get going. But all three schools have shown the propensity to field a lethal air attack, so the decision will be tough.

Ross will pick between the three on National Signing Day on Feb. 7, so the tension won’t be ratcheted up much, if at all, during the Dec. 20-22 early signing period.

Speaking to Cassidy on Clemson’s allure, Ross said, “That’s not important to me. It’s good to stay in state, but it’s not a problem for me to go out of state. I’m not worried about that. I’ll go where I fit.”

Ross told Cassidy he has made no plans other than to take an official visit to Alabama in January.

Clemson commits earn big-time honors

The accolades just don’t stop rolling in for Trevor Lawrence, Clemson’s prized quarterback commit.

He added yet another trophy to his case on Monday, as he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Georgia, per an announcement on Twitter.

One of the guys he will be throwing to next year is Derion Kendrick, who played quarterback for South Pointe High School (Rock Hill, S.C.), and earned the same honor for the state of South Carolina.

Clemson has got a recruiting class chock-full of talent, and the Tigers aren’t done yet by any stretch. They project to be quite busy during the early signing period, and once the dust settles there they will be active in trying to patch the holes on the positions they miss out on.
