K.J. Henry still unsure of college choice

As the first-ever early signing period creeps closer to commencing on Dec. 20, all eyes are on a handful of guys who will announce their decision then. One of the brightest spotlights will be on 5-star defensive end K.J. Henry, who will be deciding from a group of five finalists — Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Right now though, Henry is in full preparation for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, which will take place on Saturday. He talked to The Clemson Insider’s Gavin Oliver after practice on Tuesday, and updated his recruitment process.

Most notably, Henry hasn’t eliminated anyone from the running, at least not officially. He canceled a visit to Alabama that was supposed to take place last weekend, but the Crimson Tide aren’t eliminated according to him.

Clemson dropped by for an in-home visit last Wednesday, which Henry said went well. They also conveyed their plans for recruiting additional players at his position, depending on who Henry chooses.

“They’re still in it,” Henry told Oliver. “That they still love me. That if I go in they won’t take anybody else (another defensive lineman). I’ll be the last one.”

The biggest thing working for Clemson has been Henry’s relationship with defensive line coach Todd Bates, whom Henry has forged a strong relationship with.

“Coach Bates coming in I think is the biggest thing,” Henry told Oliver. “I had a really good relationship with (former Clemson DL coach Marion) Hobby, but Coach Bates is a genuine guy. He has been really good taking that spot and not really forcing it because he knows I had a good relationship with the last coach.”

2 more 2019 offers extended

As the recruiting world keeps spinning, Clemson keeps extending offers. The Tigers offered two more Class of 2019 prospects — one late on Monday and another on Tuesday — both defensive players from North Carolina.

Linebacker Jaylon Scott pulled in an offer on Monday, his fourth offer total.

Clemson — which will receive a visit from Scott this weekend — joins North Carolina, Maryland and N.C. State in the hunt for the 3-star outside linebacker in the Class of 2019 from Shelby (N.C.). He’s ranked as the No. 39 player at his position, per the 247Sports composite rankings.

The Tigers also offered Class of 2019 safety Anthony Harris, per his school’s Twitter.

Harris holds offers from N.C. State, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina among others.
