The Clemson football team didn’t play a game last weekend, but the Tigers still caused a buzz in the college football world.
Thursday, a video was leaked onto social media that showed what appeared to be two Clemson football players boxing in the team’s locker room, and it quickly went viral. In his press conference Tuesday, Swinney called the fight “something we don’t tolerate” and told reporters that he addressed the video with his players.
Swinney said the video was not taken recently, and that the two players involved were “walk-ons” with “a little too much time on their hands.” He called the fight “stupid” and said the team’s locker room is “not a frat house.”
“We’ve all raised kids and sometimes young people with a little too much time on their hands do stupid stuff,” Swinney said. “You’ve got a pair of boxing gloves laying around, next thing you know you’ve got a boxing match going on.”
Swinney compared the fight to moving into a new house, getting furniture set up and then trashing the place.
“It’s just stupid,” Swinney said. “That’s how all of a sudden somebody gets hurt because they’re goofing off.”
