Clay Travis has a big statement about Gus Malzahn’s hot-seat situation.
On Saturday, Auburn suffered a stunning 27-23 loss to LSU at Tiger Stadium. Auburn dropped to 5-2 with the result, and it saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.
Afterward, Travis praised LSU and said Malzahn “is right back on the hot seat” with the defeat.
Wow, what a win for LSU. Auburn collapsed. Gus Malzahn is right back on the hot seat!

That’s a strong statement, especially after Auburn’s success early in the season. Before Saturday, it would have seemed crazy to consider the Auburn coach to be on the hot seat. Of course, Malzahn faced some heat entering the season. But he appeared to quiet critics with Auburn’s strong start.
Travis may be taking it too far to consider Malzahn “back on the hot seat.” After all, there’s a strong chance that Auburn can go on to have a strong season.
But it’s an interesting question worth considering. And certainly, Malzahn can’t afford more losses like the one Auburn experienced Saturday.
