Clay Travis calls the NCAA ‘the worst organization in all of sports,’ anti-American

In recent days, many have taken aim at the NCAA and criticized it, given the FBI’s investigation into college basketball. From Stan Van Gundy to Luke Del Rio, many have called out the NCAA, and Clay Travis may have the strongest take yet.

Travis, on his radio show Outkick the Coverage, took aim at the NCAA and put them on blast, calling it the worst organization in all of sports and labeling the governing body as “un-American.”

“You should find the concept of improper benefits to be fundamentally, un-American,” Travis said. The idea that the NCAA is an organization exists that poor kids with talent in basketball and football maintain their poor kid status throughout their entire time in college is the most illegitimate, the most indefensible and why I believe the single worst organization in all of sports. Because its entire purpose is fundamentally anti-American.”

Travis has been known to say provocative statements from time to time but there is some merit to Travis’ comments. In college basketball, players who have the capability to start making millions at the age of 18 lack the ability to do so in the NBA. Which is why there exists a space where agents are loaning tens of thousands of dollars to high end talents like Markelle Fultz and Bam Adebayo.

It’s in the system why you have Sean Miller, the head coach of Arizona, reportedly discussing a $100,000 payment for Deandre Ayton, who was the No. 1 high school recruit in the country last year. And based on Ayton’s play this year, he’s proven to be worth at least that much. Miller did not coach Arizona’s game against Oregon, but Ayton did end up playing in the game. He finished the night with 28 points and 18 rebounds.

The reports that came out also detailed that it wasn’t just one and done players meeting with and talking with agents as a number of players at many big time programs where named in the report. The NCAA has discussed possibly changing its rules regarding agents, but if that’s already the case, doesn’t it show that the NCAA system is already flawed?
