Auburn legend Charles Barkley has always remained loyal to his Tigers, but he didn’t pump up his alma mater in his bracket this year.
Despite Auburn winning a share of the SEC regular season, Barkley has the Tigers bowing out in the second round to 12th-seeded New Mexico State.

Barkley called New Mexico State one of his two sleeper teams in this tournament, along with 11th-seeded San Diego State, who he has defeating North Carolina in the Sweet 16.
Overall, Barkley’s bracket isn’t bad. There’s a good mix of chalk and upsets there, with No. 3-seeded Michigan State winning the whole thing. He also as Gonzaga, Arizona and Villanova in the Final Four — all popular picks this season.
Barkley also said he believes Tennessee is the deepest SEC team in the tournament, and best fit for a big run. However, he did concede that Kentucky is the most talented SEC squad in the field.
If Auburn is able to survive the College of Charleston on Friday, Tiger fans everywhere will be expecting them to make the Sweet 16. Barkley will not be among them.
