CBS Sports: TCU one of year’s biggest surprises

The TCU Horned Frogs began this year unranked and coming off a disappointing 6-7 season.

After seven weeks, they’re in the driver’s seat in the Big 12 and are No. 4 in the AP Poll.

That’s why the 6-0 Frogs are one of CBS Sports’ seven biggest surprises of the season. Ben Kercheval wrote about why TCU’s success has been so shocking.

“The Horned Frogs are 6-0, sit alone atop the Big 12 standings at 3-0 and rank No. 4 in both major polls,” Kercheval wrote. “Did you have them doing all of that two months ago? Oh you did? Stop lying.”

In a “classic Gary Patterson” season, the Frogs are poised to make a run at the title. But even if they don’t, TCU will have already defied the odds.

“The Frogs have some tough road games in November that will determine whether this team goes to the Big 12 Championship Game and beyond,” Kercheval wrote. “But this team has already surpassed national expectations.”

TCU won’t be satisfied with that, though. The Frogs, with their “Eyes Up Keep Climbing” motto, have their sights set on some major hardware.

And that shouldn’t be a surprise to any fan of a Gary Patterson-coached Horned Frogs squad.
