The TCU Horned Frogs are No. 6 in the AP Poll, but CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli still has them one spot lower than that in his rankings.
Fornelli bases his rankings off a formula that evaluates performance on a season-by-season basis. As he puts it, “the formula is in no way predictive, it’s a meritocracy.”
By merit, Fornelli has the Frogs at No. 7. That’s the same place TCU was last week, before a win over a Top-25 West Virginia team.
TCU was — if you’ll pardon the pun — leapfrogged by Georgia in the CBS Sports rankings. The Bulldogs are coming off a 45-14 rout of Vanderbilt.
The Frogs are the top-ranked team in the Big 12 in these rankings. Fornelli says TCU is “in the Big 12 driver’s seat” after last week. Oklahoma clocks in at No. 15 after losing to Iowa State, Oklahoma State is at No. 18 and Texas Tech is at No. 24.
The Texas Longhorns sit at No. 42. West Virginia plummeted from No. 28 to No. 44 after the loss to TCU. And Iowa State poked its head into the rankings at No. 48 after upsetting Oklahoma.
Clemson, Alabama, Penn State and Washington are Fornelli’s top four teams.
