Mark Auburn down for another major in-state recruiting win.

Coynis Miller announced his commitment Saturday in an video. The 4-star defensive tackle chose Auburn over Alabama and Florida. It’s Auburn’s second commitment in a row — Asa Martin in August — that involved recruiting victories over those two schools.

This is a major pickup for the Tigers who jump from the No. 24 class in the team ranking to No. 18.

It’s another recruiting win for Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner, who is the main reason why Miller chose the Tigers.

“Coach G, he’s a great coach,” Miller told SEC Country previously. “He’ll push you hard and make sure you do everything right. I liked seeing that. It’s good. It pushes players to be better. He’d push me to where I want to be, and that’d be really good for me.”

Miller saw it up close for the first time during his high school spring break in March. He spent four days on the Plains during spring practice. Miller spent plenty of time with Garner and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele who broke down exactly how they saw him fitting in at Auburn.

From that point forward, the Tigers were the clear team to beat.

He continued to communicate regularly with Alabama and Florida. Miller took several more visits to Tuscaloosa. He only visited Florida one time, which ended up being the Gators’ biggest downfall.

Ultimately, as long as Miller saw the on-field proof from Auburn, other programs were going to have a tough sell. That’s exactly what happened.

“They were just playing good, getting after it,” Miller said. “Jeff Holland caught my attention a lot. You know, just seeing him get after it. He’s passionate about the game. They’re better than I thought they were going to be. They were just flying to the ball making plays. Every time I talk to Coach G, he says, I’ll be playing behind those guys. I try to get a look at how they do things. It’s going to be good.”

With Miller’s commitment, Auburn now has two defensive line commitments to go along with Daquan Newkirk. Both of those players will likely play defensive tackle at Auburn, so look for the Tigers to try to add three more prospects on the defensive line, likely one interior-exterior hybrid and two exterior defensive linemen.

Names to keep an eye on are Richard Jibunor, Kayode Oladele, Andres Fox and Tobe Umerah.
