Oklahoma and Texas are set to go in the annual Red River Showdown on Saturday, but the No. 12 Sooners can’t sleepwalk against the unranked Longhorns.
Bleacher Report’s Adam Kramer put Oklahoma on upset alert for the Week 7 matchup between the Sooners and Longhorns at the State Fair of Texas. It is the fifth straight Red River Showdown in which a ranked Oklahoma team has taken on an unranked Texas squad.
Kramer wrote that “Oklahoma is reeling and Texas is on a high after a gutsy victory” and that the Sooners could slip again if the defense doesn’t rebound from a sloppy performance against Iowa State in Week 6.
Oklahoma was upset by the Cyclones, 38-31, on home turf in Week 6. The Longhorns, on the other hand, recorded a thrilling 40-34 overtime victory over Kansas State.
If history is any indicator, Texas might very well be on pace for a win against the Oklahoma on Saturday. The teams have alternated wins dating back to 2012, with Oklahoma most recently prevailing in the 2016 matchup.
Oklahoma enters the game as a 9 1/2-point favorite. If the Sooners fall short, it would mark the first time since 1999 that Oklahoma has lost back-to-back games in the regular season.
Kickoff for the Red River Showdown is set for 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN.
