Baylor-West Virginia: Time, TV channel, watch online for Week 8 game (October 21, 2017)

Baylor and West Virginia will play in a battle of Big 12 programs on October 21, 2017, at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas.  Find game time, TV channel and how to watch online information below.

The Bears sit at 0-6 and are still searching for their first win under head coach Matt Rhule. Baylor has lost to three Big 12 teams, an ACC team, a Conference USA team and FCS opponent. However, the Bears have been within one possession in the fourth quarter of five of six games this season. Only Oklahoma State last week turned into a blowout.

West Virginia is ranked in the AP Top 25 and is one of five teams tied for second place in the Big 12 with a 2-1 conference record. Quarterback Will Grier, wide receiver David Sills and running back Justin Crawford make up one of the most special threesomes in the conference. The Mountaineers have not won in Waco since joining the Big 12 conference, so pulling off the feat on Saturday would be a big moment.

Baylor vs. West Virginia preview, keys to the game

1. Establish running game. Baylor did a better job of moving the ball on the ground in the first quarter against Oklahoma State, and it showed. The Bears ran for 53 yards on the first drive of the game, which was the lone touchdown drive. In fact, Baylor averaged 38 rushing yards per drive on its four scoring drives. On all other drives, the Bears averaged just 6.7 rushing yards per drive. Running success sets up the offense.

2. Limit big plays. This is easier said than done for Baylor’s defense, considering the big play has been the bane of the Bears’ existence. Oklahoma State scored five touchdowns of 25 yards or more in Baylor’s 59-16 loss in Stillwater. Breakdowns – especially at safety – have been a much more significant part of Baylor’s defensive woes than the line. Against West Virginia, preventing the big play becomes even more critical against the elite offense.

3. Keep fighting. West Virginia has a super explosive offense, but the defense is susceptible at times. Even if West Virginia is able to make some big plays offensively, the Baylor offense has to keep grinding down the Mountaineer defense. West Virginia gave up nearly 300 rushing yards to Kansas RB Khalil Herbert, so the combination of Terence Williams and JaMycal Hasty could give the Mountaineers fits. But if the Bears stop fighting after they go down, this game will be over quickly.
