Baker Mayfield: ‘You should draft me because I’m a winner’

In a Q&A with Steve Serby of the New York Post, Baker Mayfield answered multiple questions about himself, and his expectations leading up to the draft. Specifically, Mayfield answered a question about his confidence in the way that only he can.

Serby: Let’s pretend I’m an NFL general manager. Tell me why I should draft you.

Mayfield:  You should draft me because I’m a winner. I make my teammates play harder. I set the bar high, and I’ll do anything, whatever it takes to win.

Mayfield has had success nearly everywhere he’s been. As a senior, he won a UIL State Championship at Lake Travis (TX) High, and took the Oklahoma Sooners to the College Football Playoff semifinals twice. During his tenure at Oklahoma, Mayfield was 33-6 as the starting quarterback of the Sooners.

It may seem like arrogance to some, but there’s validity to those statements. He’s won every place he spent multiple years at, and has a track record of excellence. It wasn’t just the product of excellent teammates either, Mayfield was second in FBS career passing percentage, just behind other Sooner great Sam Bradford. He also holds the Big 12 record for touchdowns responsible for with 153. Is it really arrogance when the facts back up the assertion?
