The seemingly endless stream of accolades and awards given to Baker Mayfield hasn’t stopped yet. Today, CBS Sports announced that Mayfield is their pick for Player of the Year.

None of these awards have been shocking, ever since Penn State’s Saquon Barkley’s production took a dip in the later half of the season they’ve all been pretty much his. Mayfield won the Heisman, he’s a unanimous All-American, and every single outlet whose All-American picks aren’t included in the unanimous criteria selected him as an All-American.
The only award he didn’t get was the Burlsworth Trophy, given to the most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on. Still, that doesn’t really matter when you win the Heisman.
There’s only one more trophy that actually matters, and that’s the one given to the College Football Playoff winner. Mayfield and the Sooners will square off against the tough defense of the Georgia Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl. Mayfield will be pitted against the best defense he’s faced so far in this season, but the Bulldogs haven’t seen a playmaker quite like Mayfield either.
