After weeks of being projected as a top-10 draft pick, Baker Mayfield slipped a few spots in the latest mock draft from SB Nation’s Dan Kadar.
From SB Nation:
If Mayfield happens to slip in the draft, the Cardinals shouldn’t hesitate on picking him at No. 15. He would inject Arizona with some excitement and give them a franchise successor to Carson Palmer.
Mayfield’s fall in this mock was a direct result of some teams with quarterback needs going with other prospects early in the first round. Kadar has the Browns taking USC’s Sam Darnold at No. 1 and the Jets taking UCLA’s Josh Rosen at No. 6.
However, he said Mayfield could absolutely be in play for the No. 1 overall pick depending on how free agency goes for Cleveland.
If the Browns strike out on a good veteran quarterback this offseason, this pick should be a more pro-ready quarterback [than Darnold] like Josh Rosen of UCLA or Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma. But if the Browns can get a bridge quarterback – even if it’s just Josh McCown – they should bet on Darnold’s potential with the first overall pick.
Mayfield will be among the quarterbacks who work out at the NFL Scouting Combine this week. Quarterbacks arrive in Indianapolis on Wednesday, and quarterback workouts are on Saturday.
