Baker Mayfield has pretty much erased any doubt that he’s the best quarterback in college football this season.
The Oklahoma quarterback leads all of college football in Total QBR at 91.9, according to ESPN. He’s a full five points ahead of the next closest quarterback is Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph at 86.9. Reigning Heisman winner Lamar Jackson is No. 3 at 84.6.
Against Kansas State, Mayfield posted a QBR of 93.6 with 410 passing yards and 4 total touchdowns. It was the fifth time this season he had a QBR of 90 or higher.
The performance earned him recognition from ESPN as one of the country’s top five quarterbacks in Week 8.
From ESPN’s Jeremy Mills:
[Mayfield] completed all five of his throws at least 20 yards downfield and has completed a Power 5-best 61 percent of such throws this season. He stood up well against the Kansas State blitz Saturday, completing 8 of 9 passes with both of his touchdown passes coming when the Wildcats brought extra rushers.
