Baker Mayfield could be one of the first picks in the upcoming NFL draft, according to the latest mock.
SB Nation’s Dan Kadar has Mayfield going second overall to the New York Giants in his mock draft this week. That’s the highest projection for Mayfield so far. He has UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen going first overall to the Cleveland Browns.
From SB Nation:
The opinion on Mayfield is all over the place. On Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Mayfield will get drafted higher than people think. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports followed that up by saying that “teams are all over the draft board” on Mayfield, but he could rise after team interviews. If Mayfield does rise, he could jump this far up the draft board, giving the Giants a successor to Eli Manning.
While some anonymous NFL scouts have questioned Mayfield’s character, there haven’t been many public concerns about his abilities as a passer. His efficiency could make him attractive to a Giants team that has struggled to find consistency with Manning this season.
The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner has completed more than 70 percent of his passes each of the past two seasons. He’s shattering passing records at Oklahoma and nationally. He’s thrown for a career-high 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns with just 5 interceptions this season.
