Baker Mayfield had plenty to celebrate on Saturday after capturing the sixth Heisman Trophy in Oklahoma Sooners history.
And what better way to celebrate the special occasion than busting out some dance moves to a few classic tunes?
According to the Oklahoman, Mayfield and his family threw a dance party to the tunes of the band Earth, Wind & Fire in his hotel room following the main event.
But according to Mayfield, it was his mother — Gina Mayfield — who stole the show on the dancefloor at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. Mayfield joked that his mother “tore it up” as the music blasted.
We’ll never know if the Oklahoma quarterback threw in a Heisman pose or two to the tune of “September” or “Let’s Groove,” but Mayfield had the day of his life in the Big Apple from what he had to share.
Now, of course, the latest Heisman winner can only hope another dance party will come on the night of Jan. 8, 2018 — the day of the National Championship Game in Atlanta, Ga.
Oklahoma will face Georgia in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day with a trip to the biggest game of the year on the line. The Sooners last competed for a national title in January 2009, but lost the BCS National Championship Game to Florida.
For now, Mayfield can do a little celebrating before full preparations for the “Granddaddy of Them All” begin.
