An Auburn win at Texas A&M might turn Kerryon Johnson’s frowns upside down

Why all the frowny faces, Kerryon Johnson?

Auburn’s running back, among others, is not excited that Auburn’s Nov. 4 game at Texas A&M is scheduled for noon ET —  11 a.m. CT in College Station, Texas.

After Auburn tweeted the Texas A&M game time announcement on Tuesday, Johnson tweeted six frowny faces.

Auburn’s leading rusher and the national leader with 14 rushing touchdowns is not enamored with morning kickoffs. He’s not alone, and for good reason.

As SEC Country’s Justin Ferguson noted, before this season Auburn was 14-13 in morning kickoffs over the last decade, including 6-11 in SEC games.

That’s not a great record, especially considering seven of those games came against non-Power 5 opponents. Some of the ugliest games of the Gus Malzahn, Gene Chizik and late Tommy Tuberville eras started in the a.m.

On the bright side, however, Auburn is 1-0 this season in game starting before noon CT. The Tigers throttled Ole Miss 44-23 on Oct. 7, led by Johnson’s 204 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. But the Tigers were outscored 20-9 in the second half, the malaise carried over in a disastrous 27-23 loss at LSU the following week.

A win at Texas A&M following the bye week might be all Johnson needs to turn those frowns upside down.
