Auburn sports: Welcome (officially) to March Madness and SEC play

Auburn-Auburn football-Auburn basketball

Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers’ sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Wake up, it’s NCAA Tournament game day

It’s the day Auburn fans have been waiting almost two decades for: The Tigers are back in the March Madness mix.

Bruce Pearl’s basketball team will take on College of Charleston in its first-round game in San Diego at 6:27 p.m. CT Friday. You can catch the game on truTV.

Auburn is looking to move on to bigger and better things after some end-of-season disappointments. First, the Tigers lost several of their last regular-season games and then they exited the SEC Tournament early following a befuddling loss to Alabama.

All of Auburn’s failures (and there aren’t very many) won’t matter in the slightest if the Tigers can notch a couple of postseason wins.

Baseball against Aggies

Auburn baseball has flown through the nonconference slate of its schedule and now Butch Thompson’s team is gearing up for SEC play.

The Tigers welcome Texas A&M to Plainsman Park this weekend for a three-game series. As usual, Casey Mize will be on the mound to start on Friday night. Auburn is looking to keep the winning going in conference play.

Iron Bowl on softball diamond

The start of SEC play is always exciting, but sometimes early conference play also means it’s time for the fiercest rivalry game.

Auburn softball hosts Alabama at Jane B. Moore Field in a three-game series this weekend. The Tigers are desperately seeking a win after losing a trio of games in Baton Rouge last weekend.

While an Iron Bowl series of any kind is always meaningful, this one really matters because Auburn needs a win over another ranked opponent. The Friday game will start at 6 p.m. CT and Kaylee Carlson will be in the circle.
