Tigers’ winning rallies come late

Auburn was facing a deficit during the seventh-inning stretch on Wednesday but turned things around in the final two innings to earn its second win in two days.

After three runs in the seventh and another in the eighth, Butch Thompson’s team topped Memphis 5-4 at Plainsman Park.

Southpaw Welby Malczewski earned the first win of his career, striking out 4 batters in the process. Now, Auburn will prepare to start SEC play on Friday against Texas A&M on the Plains.

Swimming like it’s been awhile

Auburn women’s swimming and diving team didn’t wait long before it started to roll at the 2018 NCAA championships.

Erin Falconer, Aly Tetzloff, Sonnele Ozturk and Jessica Merritt recorded the program’s fastest 800 free relay time since 2007, finishing in 7 minutes, 1.95 seconds.

Falconer led off and posted a 1:45.00 personal best, Tetzloff swam second (1:46:39), and Ozturk was third in line (1:46.17). Finally, Merritt anchored the race, closing with a time of 1:44.39 — that was the second-fastest final leg in the heat.
