Arkansas basketball will get one of two Ole Miss teams on Tuesday night.
The Rebels will either be absolutely bad — the news of their coach’s exit at the end of the season taking a mental toll — or the Rebels will perform absolutely great — the news of their coach’s exit at the end of the season the motivation for an elite performance.
Who knows which. It might help Ole Miss’ cause that it can play spoiler. An Arkansas loss to the second-worst team in the SEC — record-wise — might be enough to send the Razorbacks out of the projected “in” spots in national bracketology projections.
Besides the motivation, the game might be more difficult than Ole Miss’ caliber might suggest. Andy Kennedy’s team — for six more games plus an SEC Tournament, perhaps — has a poor record. They’re losers of seven of their last eight games. But their game Tuesday against Arkansas is in Oxford. The Razorbacks have one true road win all season. Consider, too, Ole Miss lost by just four points when the two played in Fayetteville.
Daryl Macon and Jaylen Barford will almost definitely show up for Arkansas. The two are the biggest reasons the Razorbacks are even on the bubble right now. Another big performance from Daniel Gafford would help their cause, too.
But given the circumstances, with Kennedy’s announcement Monday, the game is impossible to predict.
