FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – This has all the makings to be a “feather-in-the-cap” type of game for the Arkansas men’s basketball.
Minnesota visits Bud Walton Arena on Saturday in the return game of a home-and-home series. The Golden Gophers, who took Game 1 last season, are ranked 14th in the country and a dark horse for the Final Four. They pummeled Arkansas last season, but as coaches are fond to say, this season isn’t last season.
Arkansas (6-2) enters in a middling stretch. The Razorbacks are 2-2 in their past four games. The two wins came by a combined 61 points against Connecticut and Colorado State. Two losses, on the other hand, came by a combined 45 against North Carolina and Houston.
Minnesota (8-2) is a show-me game. A Razorbacks’ win would garner some national attention for the Hogs. They sit on the outside of the top 25 right now thanks in large part to poor showings against the Tar Heels and Cougars. Beating Minnesota would hint to the rest of the country those were hiccups and provide Arkansas with a signature win on its NCAA tournament resume.
