The Arizona State Sun Devils (3-3), fresh off a wild upset of the previously undefeated Washington Huskies, travel north to face the Utah Utes (4-2) in a Pac-12 matchup. Utah itself is coming off a wild ending against USC a week ago that saw them fail on a potential game-winning 2-point conversion in the game’s final minute.
Get all your information on this Arizona State-Utah matchup below:
Arizona State just injected chaos into the college football landscape with its upset of Washington. Utah is coming off one of the most chaotic endings to a game the Pac-12 has seen in 2017. Is it far-fetched to think chaos will be a theme as the two teams meet up?
At 2-1 in Pac-12 play, the Sun Devils very quietly control their own destiny to a division title and berth into the conference championship. If ASU upends the Utes, it’ll set the stage for another potential upset as Arizona State returns home to face USC.
As for Utah, they’re riding a two-game skid despite being in a position to win at USC just a week earlier. The Utes are desperate to salvage a season that had a ceiling in the clouds less than a month ago.

Arizona State-Utah keys to the game for the Sun Devils
Pressure the Utah QB, whoever it is
The quarterback situation for Utah is unclear going into Saturday afternoon. Troy Williams has lined up as the team’s starting signal-caller for the past two games while Tyler Huntley nurses an injury. Huntley returned to practice this week, but no official word has yet been made as to whether or not he’ll play.
Regardless, the Sun Devils have to keep up the same pressure against Utah that it did against Washington. Arizona State had three sacks in the first half alone last week, forcing the Huskies to veer away from its gameplan. That also forced Washington to stay behind the chains — the Huskies were just 3-of-14 on third downs.
Maintain ball control
In ASU’s upset of Washington, the Sun Devils won the time of possession battle by nearly 10 minutes. They also had three more first downs than the Huskies and committed just one penalty. A week ago, USC allowed Utah to hang around because Sam Darnold, as usual, couldn’t stop turning the ball over.
If Arizona State can limit turnovers and improve its rushing attack to complement the pass, Utah will have a tough time finding the same spark it did in Los Angeles.
