The Sun Devils are on fire (pun unintended).
After a 9-0 start that included double-digit wins over No. 15 Xavier and No. 2 Kansas, Arizona State has landed in the top 5 and earned additional recognition from the nation’s coaches.

The NABC broke down Arizona State’s run, highlighting the last week for Bobby Hurley’s squad:
Arizona State continued its unbeaten start to the season with a pair of victories last week away from home. On Friday, the Sun Devils handed St. John’s only its second loss of the season, 82-70, in Los Angeles as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. ASU followed that performance on Sunday by winning at then-No. 2 Kansas, 95-85, marking the most points scored by a KU opponent at Allen Fieldhouse in regulation since 1989. After starting the season unranked, the Sun Devils have climbed to No. 6 in this week’s coaches poll.
Much of Arizona State’s success is due to the cohesive play of its veteran-laden group, highlighted by senior guard Tra Holder, who ranked third in NBC Sports’ latest Player of the Year rankings. Holder leads the Sun Devils in minutes played (36.1) and points per game (21.2), and is tied with Shannon Evans II in assists per game (5.2). Evans was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Monday.
The Sun Devils appear primed to keep the hot streak going. ASU doesn’t face a ranked opponent until after Christmas, when the Sun Devils meet in-state rival Arizona on Dec. 30 at the Wildcats’ McKale Center.
