Arizona drops in AP poll after earning split with L.A. schools

The Arizona Wildcats had been one of the hottest teams in college basketball before last week, climbing all the way to No. 13 in the polls thanks to winning 16 out of its previous 17 games. But since then, the Wildcats lost two in a row for the first time since the ill-fated Bahamas trip in November.

A Feb. 3 loss at the buzzer to Washington, followed by a 82-74 loss to UCLA on Thursday at McKale Center has dropped the Wildcats down four spots to No. 17 in the latest AP Poll.

The Wildcats (20-6) are just ahead of No. 18 Tennessee and just behind the surprising Rhode Island Rams of the Atlantic 10.

The Wildcats followed the UCLA loss by beating USC 81-67 on Saturday. They now face a stretch of three consecutive road games: at No. 25 Arizona State on Thursday, then a week off before making the Oregon trip to face Oregon State the following Thursday and Oregon a week from Saturday.

Last week, the Wildcats were the only other Pac-12 school ranked, but are joined by No. 25 Arizona State this week
