Sam Darnold quarterback skill set will be heavily dissected from now until the 2018 NFL Draft. Draft pundits will be picking apart the USC quarterback as an NFL prospect. The Sporting News’ Bill Bender says of Darnold’s criticisms is fair and another is unjust.
Bender thinks people saying Darnold isn’t ready to start is not of merit.
“Darnold played in 27 games at USC in 2016 and ’17 — only four fewer than Mitchell Trubisky had in three years.”
However, Bender does believes Darnold’s turnover concerns are valid.
“Darnold struggled turning the ball over at USC. He had 35 total turnovers in two seasons starting, and he’ll likely end up on a team that can’t afford takeaways like that.”
Most draft projects have Darnold as a top three quarterback and top-10 selection in this year’s draft.
