Year 2 of the Barry Odom era is looking a lot like Year 1 of the Odom era, and this is not a good thing.
The Tigers are winless in SEC games, with their only wins coming against the likes of Missouri State and Idaho. Even worse, just about every SEC game has been a blowout, with the exception of a painful loss to Kentucky.
To Odom’s credit, he’s already lined up a potential successor to Drew Lock in 2018 quarterback James Foster. He is the No. 14 dual-threat quarterback in the class, per the 247Sports composite rankings. Foster turned down offers from Alabama and Georgia. Missouri also landed 4-star linebacker Chad Bailey and has the No. 13 recruiting class in the SEC.
Missouri went 4-8 in Odom’s first season. It wasn’t always pretty, but the Tigers did beat Arkansas and nearly knocked off Georgia earlier in the season. Offensive coordinator Josh Heupel helped fuel the offense, but its up-tempo pace hurt the defense.
In his first full recruiting cycle with little elite talent available in Missouri, Odom brought in the No. 42 recruiting class in the country. Among SEC teams, the Tigers finished with the No. 13 class.
Odom had a guaranteed salary of $2.35 million during his first season at Missouri. In the previous edition of SEC Country’s approval rating poll, Odom saw his rating plummet from a 72.2 percent rating to a 33.7, which moved him to No. 12 among SEC coaches.
So, how do Missouri fans feel about Odom now? Was Odom’s first season and first full recruiting class enough to convince Missouri fans he was the right person to replace Gary Pinkel? Now is your chance to vote. Missouri visits UConn next Saturday.
Vote on Missouri coach Barry Odom’s approval rating
The SEC Country approval rating poll is designed to give an indication of fan happiness over a period of time.
Our formula is based on the percentage of respondents who select each answer. We multiply that percentage by the following factors: 1 (strongly approve), 0.67 (approve), 0.33 (disapprove) and 0.0 (strongly disapprove). In other words, if 50 percent of respondents select “strongly approve” and 50 percent select “approve,” the formula would be (50 x 1) + (50 x 0.67) = 83.5% approval rating.
