Ed Orgeron, much like his predecessor Les Miles, has LSU on a roller coaster from week to week.
Sometimes that means getting thumped by Mississippi State and losing at home to Troy. Other times, that means beating Florida and Auburn in back-to-back games.
Orgeron became LSU’s full-time coach in November after taking over on an interim basis in September following the dismissal of Les Miles. Orgeron moved quickly to retain Dave Aranda as defensive coordinator and later brought in Matt Canada as offensive coordinator. He also collected the No. 7 recruiting class for the 2017 cycle.
The offense hasn’t looked wildly different this year, as it has still looked sluggish. As long as quarterback Danny Etling can stay healthy and hand the ball off to Derrius Guice, one of the country’s best running backs, LSU should not be taken lightly be anyone. Guice hasn’t exactly been healthy this year, but he’ s always a threat to have a monster game, as he showed against Ole Miss by rushing for 276 yards.
In SEC Country’s previous approval poll, Orgeron had a solid rating, coming in with an 82.5 approval rating, good for sixth in the SEC. In the past month, the Tigers have seen a slip in the recruiting rankings, as they now have the No. 5 class in the SEC and the No. 15 class in the country.
Orgeron reportedly signed a five-year, $17.5 million contract with LSU. The Tigers are off this weekend as they prepare for Alabama.
Vote on Ed Orgeron’s approval rating
The SEC Country approval rating poll is designed to give an indication of fan happiness over a period of time.
Our formula is based on the percentage of respondents who select each answer. We multiply that percentage by the following factors: 1 (strongly approve), 0.67 (approve), 0.33 (disapprove) and 0.0 (strongly disapprove). In other words, if 50 percent of respondents select “strongly approve” and 50 percent select “approve,” the formula would be (50 x 1) + (50 x 0.67) = 83.5% approval rating.
