Allen Lazard continues to climb Iowa State record books

Allen Lazard is arguably the best wide receiver in Iowa State history, and the stats are beginning to back it up.

He’s already first in all-time receptions and second in touchdowns, but during the Cyclones’ victory over Oklahoma he moved into second on the receiving yards list.

Lazard needs less than 300 yards to move into the top slot for receiving yards. Barring an injury or some extremely unfortunate on the field circumstances, he’ll get it.

As a junior, Lazard had 1,018 yards and seven touchdowns on 69 receptions. His yardage pacing has slowed down this year, he only has 310 yards through five games, but there’s still a lot of football left to be played.

The Cyclones have just pulled off the biggest win in program history. They upset the top ranked Oklahoma Sooners on the road. The last time Iowa State pulled off an upset this big, it was 2011, and the Cyclones kept the Oklahoma State Cowboys out of the BCS.

Iowa State has already equaled last year’s win total with their 3-2 record in 2017. They have a tough, hard nosed defense and an offense that looks functional when the quarterback has room to breathe. They’re not a pushover anymore, and no team should take them lightly.
