Alabama softball finishes Easton Bama Bash with three wins

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama softball team wasn’t able to play its final game of the Easton Bama Bash as rain forced the cancellation of Sunday’s schedule at Rhoads Stadium.

The Crimson Tide was set to close the tournament against Georgia State. Overall, No. 10 Alabama went 3-1 over the weekend, splitting its two games against No. 9 Florida State.

Staff ace Alexis Osorio (3-1) won her only game in the tournament, leading a 3-0 victory against the Seminoles on Friday night. Freshman Madison Preston (3-1) took the loss in Saturday’s rematch after giving up two home runs including a leadoff shot down the left-field line to Seminoles.

“This was her first shot against a ranked opponent,” Coach Patrick Murphy said. “I thought she gave us a chance to win and that’s what I always ask from a starting pitcher. She’s out there for a reason, we believe she has the ability to beat a top-10 team.”

Alabama had the bases loaded in the seventh when it made the final out. Senior shortstop Sydney Booker led the Crimson Tide offensively with two hits.

Alabama (9-2) also defeated Northern Iowa 11-3 in six innings on Saturday.

Junior Courtney Gettins (3-0) earned the win after yielding two runs in the first inning.

“Courtney settled down,” Murphy said.

Senior Demi Turner had three hits and sophomore Bailey Hemphill a career-best four RBIs.

Alabama will visit UAB on Tuesday at 7  p.m. ET, and travel next weekend to the Husky Classic in Seattle, hosted by No. 1 Washington.
