Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings , a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. Today, we talk the latest with who Alabama can flip in the 2019 class.
Who can Alabama flip in the 2019 class?
Nolan Smith II, 5-star defensive end, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) — committed to Georgia
Nolan Smith has taken several visits to Tuscaloosa throughout his recruitment and is a giant priority for Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi; however, it’s going to be tough for the Tide to flip Smith. He’s one of those players who’s from the state of Georgia and grew up wanting to play for the Bulldogs. Georgia coach Kirby Smart is going to lock those guys down for the Dawgs.
Christopher Hinton, 5-star defensive end, Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, Ga.) — committed to Michigan
Christopher Hinton is going to be another recruit who is going to be tough to flip. Hinton’s first offer was from Michigan, and he has stated how important academics are to him. It’s one of the biggest reasons why he ended up choosing the Wolverines. Alabama will have to try to tell Hinton that its school’s academics are on Michigan’s level to have any chance at flipping him from the Wolverines.
Akeem Dent, 5-star cornerback, Palm Beach Central (West Palm Beach, Fla.) — committed to Florida State
Nick Saban made it a point to visit Palm Beach Central last month to meet with Akeem Dent’s coach in the midst of trying to finish up the 2018 class. Dent, the nation’s No. 1 cornerback, is a giant priority for Alabama in the 2019 class.
Tyrion Davis, 4-star running back, Southern Lab (Baton Rouge, La.) — committed to LSU
Tyrion Davis told SEC Country that Alabama is his No. 2 school. Could an underwhelming season at LSU be enough to change his mind? He’s a former teammate of sophomore linebacker Chris Allen, but his current teammate, 5-star guard Kardell Thomas, is committed to LSU and locked in with the Tigers. Thomas and Davis are very close with each other and have expressed their desire to play together on the next level. Alabama lost its running back commitment when Trey Sanders de-committed in January. Davis has said that competition doesn’t scare him one bit.
George Pickens, 4-star wide receiver, Hoover (Ala.) — committed to Auburn
George Pickens doesn’t have an Alabama offer yet, but he’ll likely receive one from the Crimson Tide at some point down the road. Pickens, a 6-foot-5 prospect, will likely be the Tide’s top big-bodied receiver target down the road. Alabama failed to sign a tall receiver in the 2018 class after in-state receiver Justyn Ross spurned the Tide on National Signing Day by choosing Clemson. It should be noted that Pickens’ former teammate, Shedrick Jackson, signed with the Tigers in the 2018 class.
