2019 recruiting battle

Alabama and LSU have dueled for many years over top recruits, specifically linebacker prospects. Both schools churn out multiple next-level players at that position. Now, the two schools will battle for another. Five-star linebacker Nakobe Dean said LSU and Alabama are two schools that will be in his top 5 . Dean is the No. 1 inside linebacker for the 2019 cycle, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Making history

Alabama women’s basketball defeated Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn., for the first time in program history, 72-63. Alabama ended a 42-game losing streak to Tennessee in 2016, and continues to make strides. Point guard Jordan Lewis had 19 points, and forward Ashley Williams had 16 points.

Baseball season starts

Alabama baseball opens up its season on Friday against Valparaiso. The Crimson Tide finished 19-34-1 in 2017, and 5-24-1 in Southeastern Conference play. Alabama also fired first-year coach Greg Goff after that season. The team brought in Brad Bohannon to replace him. Bohannon will try to rebuild Alabama baseball, but Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News believes that won’t come easy.

Jeremy Pruitt hires Alabama staffer

Another Alabama staffer is leaving Tuscaloosa. Former Alabama defensive coordinator and Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt is expected to hire analyst Chris Weinke from Alabama to be the new running backs coach. Weinke was at Alabama from the spring until now. He previously was the Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback A.J. McCarron won his grievance against the team  and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. McCarron was put on the non-football injury list in 2014 when he was actually held out for having a shoulder injury, so his service time should have been counted.
