TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — We know there is always a lot of news flying around Alabama football, so we figured it’d be a good idea to provide you with a spot to catch up on things you might have missed.

No. 1 Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC) hosts Tennessee on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

Here are stories, videos and other news and notes you might have missed this week.

Creating tension

How Alabama’s players practice typically determines Nick Saban’s mood, and the coach didn’t seem too happy at the start of his weekly radio show on Thursday.

Saban had a smile on his face, but when asked if it had been a good week, he scoffed.

“I’d rather not comment on it,” Saban said. “We got them straightened out today, though.”

Alabama is a 36-point favorite over the Volunteers, according to VegasInsider.com. The Volunteers limp into Tuscaloosa having lost their last two matchups, being outscored 56-9 in those contests.

Saban wants everyone around the program, including the players, fans and media, to know that none of that matters, so he got after the team in practice on Wednesday.

“Every now and then it’s good to create a little tension. I like to create tension,” Saban said. “I created tension today to try to get them going a little bit.”

An early happy birthday

Saban doesn’t host his radio show during the off week. Each year, fans sing Happy Birthday to Saban and give him a cake since his birthday (Oct. 31) typically falls during the bye week.

During Saban’s weekly radio show on Thursday night, a fan wanted to know what Saban plans to do during Alabama’s bye week.

Problem is, Alabama must get past Tennessee on Saturday before it can think about the off week.

Saban wouldn’t entertain the question about his bye-week plans, but he did point the fan to someone who could help.

“Now, I’m sure — Miss Terry’s here, you can go ask her — I’m sure she’s got a helluva lot of things for me to do,” Saban said.

Predictions

Each week, SEC Country writers and editors predict the outcome of Alabama’s next contest.

“Butch Jones will arrive at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday to the blaring tune of “End Of The Road” by Boyz II Men. Several SEC coaches will shed tears around 7 p.m. after Alabama blows the doors off Tennessee because that likely signifies the end of the Jones era at Tennessee, which has been filled with promise, corny catchphrases that belong in peewee ball, and little to show for the talk. Yes, he helped take over a Tennessee program that was in awful shape, but the man isn’t a good football coach and has no business being one in the SEC. Farewell, you sweet champion of life with a 5-star heart. Practice your leadership reps for your next gig. Alabama 45, Tennessee 3.” — Chris Kirschner
