Alabama football: Rashaan Evans has fun describing painful injury

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The tweet was a riddle for some. Alabama linebacker Rashaan Evans posted a tweet Sunday night letting fans and other followers know he wasn’t 100 percent.

Evans missed two games this season after suffering a groin injury against Florida State. He has returned to the field and played well, but is still with the pain from his injury.

“People actually think I’m a 100%. Muscle was ripped from the bone, when was the last time u did the second digit on my jersey standing up?” Evans posted.

“A standing No. 2?” That was the question posed to Evans on Tuesday afternoon.

“Standing, yeah. Nah, but yeah, man,” Evans said with a smile. “That’s just something … that’s just some stuff that I wanted to put out there, but nothing serious.”

Evans dealt with a similar groin injury last season and ultimately played through the pain.

Evans said he wanted to give people a view of what athletes put their bodies through for their teams and programs.

“We all go through different injuries and stuff like that,” Evans said. “Each athlete has to kind of just hone in on ‘it’s not really about you feel sometimes, it’s about what needs to be done.’ I tweeted that out, as well. But that’s just for any guy, man. We’ve just got to overcome the different adversities that we face, and that was one of mine.”

Evans said he’s feeling “a lot better today” after receiving treatment and rehab. He’ll lead Alabama’s defense into its homecoming matchup against Arkansas on Saturday night inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Alabama is coming off a 27-19 win over Texas A&M in which the defense surrendered two touchdowns. One came as a result of a fumble from Alabama’s offense, which gave Texas A&M great field position. The other happened with 17 seconds left in garbage time as the Aggies tried to crawl back into the contest.

“I thought that we could have played a lot better,” Evans said. “To be honest with you, we played our hearts out. You saw the effort and the type of energy that we had out there. We wanted to play the best game that we could play, but I felt like, as far as execution, we could’ve done a lot better.”
