Alabama football: Minkah Fitzpatick earns consensus All-America honors

Alabama football drives the conversation here at  the Rammer Jammer SEC Country’s daily Alabama athletics recap, but we’ll cover news for every facet of the Crimson Tide. Every morning, we’ll be here for the latest on Alabama football, basketball and every sport on campus.

Alabama safety Minkah Fitzpatrick has dominated awards season so far. He’s already won two national awards — Thorpe and Bednarik — and has been named to the All-SEC team. On Monday, he earned two more honors. Fitzpatrick is now an Associated Press All-American and a Football Writers Association of America All-American. Since he was already a Walter Camp All-American, he now has three of the five honors needed to earn consensus honors. Fitzpatrick will be a unanimous All-American if he makes the first team of the Sporting News and American Football Coaches Association selections.

Fitzpatrick has produced 52 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, an interception, 7 pass breakups, a forced fumble and a blocked kick this season.

Alabama also had two other players named to the AP All-America team. Center Bradley Bozeman and tackle Jonah Williams made the second and third teams, respectively. Bozeman also made the FWAA team as a second-team selection.

Postseason X-factor

In the last two meetings between Alabama and Clemson, O.J. Howard has been considered the X-factor. He was overlooked in the first game and racked up 205 yards and 2 touchdowns on 5 catches. Even after Clemson learned its lesson, the Tigers still let Howard go for 106 yards and 1 touchdown in the rematch. Since Howard is gone, who will be Alabama’s next X-factor? Our own Christopher Walsh broke down the candidates.
