Which conference is the best in college football this year is definitely still up for debate, but CBS Sports warned fans Tuesday not to sleep on the ACC or Notre Dame.
The Atlantic Coast Conference placed three teams inside the Top 12 in an early College Football Playoffs rankings from CBS Sports. The ACC also had the No. 1 team in the ranking list, as the defending national champion Clemson Tigers was one spot ahead of Alabama.
The Tigers have played the best schedule of anyone to this point and have wins over three other teams on this list, two of which came on the road.
Also from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Miami and Virginia Tech joined Clemson in the Top 12 at No. 11 and 12, respectively.
The Hurricanes finally ended a long losing streak to Florida State. Unfortunately, the Seminoles look pretty toothless right now.
The Hokies will battle Miami for supremacy in the ACC Coastal eventually. First, they need to take care of business in a couple of games at home.
Although not technically an ACC team in football, Notre Dame ranked in at No. 10 on the list. The Irish play in the Atlantic Coast Conference in every other sport and play five ACC teams this season.
The only other conference with three teams in the Top 12 on the list was the SEC. Behind Alabama at No. 2, Georgia and Auburn came in at No. 3 and 9, respectively.
