Kansas State-Creighton keys to the game

The Wildcats rely on junior forward Dean Wade for most of their offense. Wade averaged 16.5 points per game and 5 rebounds this season. When he missed the Kansas State-Kansas game in the Big 12 Tournament, the Wildcats suffered tremendously. He’ll be a game-time decision for Friday’s contest.

Barry Brown averages 16.0 points and 3.4 assists for Kansas State, so he’s a capable scorer as well. And if Makol Mawien starts feasting inside like he did in the Big 12 Tournament (29 points on 13-19 shooting against Kansas), look out.

Creighton is a typical Creighton team — pesky, well-coached and sharp-shooting. Marcus Foster leads Creighton with an average of 20.3 points per game, and he shoots an average of 7.0 threes per contest. As a team, the Bluejays average 84.3 points per game, the 10th most in the nation, and give up 74.2 points per game.

Kansas State is much more moderately paced. The Wildcats average 72.4 points per game and give up an average of 67.9 points.

This game will come down to who controls the tempo. If Creighton speeds the game up and turns it into a shootout, Kansas State might not be able to keep up. But if the Wildcats can slow the game down and not allow early open looks, they should be able to pull the mild upset.
