Arkansas opens play in the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 16, against Butler. The matchup with mark the second meeting between the two programs and first since 1931. The game will tip at 3:19 p.m. ET.

The Razorbacks (23-11) are in the tournament via an at-large bid as the No. 7 seed in the East Region. This marks Arkansas’ third trip to the tournament in the past four seasons — all under coach Mike Anderson.

The Hogs were in danger of missing the tournament a little over a month ago. But after winning eight of their final 11 games, they were not among the bubble teams nervously awaiting the field to be announced on Selection Sunday.

Butler (20-13) is making its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament after receiving an at-large bid as a No. 10 seed. The Bulldogs enter having lost six of their last nine games, though three of those defeats have come against either Villanova or Xavier. Both of those fellow Big East programs are a No. 1 seed in the tournament field.

SEC Tournament recap

Arkansas won two games at the SEC Tournament in St. Louis last week before bowing out in the semifinals.

The Razorbacks opened the conference tournament with a 69-64 win over South Carolina. Arkansas led the Gamecocks by as many as 15 before a late second-half run from South Carolina cut the Hogs’ lead to 61-59 with just under 4 minutes remaining. Senior guard Daryl Macon responded by drawing a foul and hitting two of Arkansas’ 23 made free throws in the game. That gave the Hogs a two-possession lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Arkansas followed that performance with an 80-72 upset victory over Florida in the quarterfinals. Behind the strength of a 16-2 second-half run, the Hogs beat the Gators for the first time since 2013. Senior guard Jaylen Barford’s 27 points and 10 rebounds led the way as the Razorbacks advanced to the semifinals at the tournament for the third time in four seasons.

In the semifinals, the Hogs were overwhelmed by Tennessee from the opening tip. The Vols hot shooting put Arkansas in a 48-29 deficit at halftime. The Razorbacks never cut the lead below single digits in the second half and lost 84-66.
