Wittenberg routs Allegheny to finish 8-2

The Tigers finished 8-2 and 7-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. They will miss the Division III playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Wittenberg tied for second with DePauw, which lost 45-17 to outright champion Wabash on Saturday. Wabash and DePauw were the only teams to beat Wittenberg.

Allegheny (0-10, 0-9) suffered its second winless season in the last three years.

In his last start, senior quarterback Zack Jenkins completed 14 of 16 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He didn’t play in the second half.

Senior running backs Sean Gary and Jimmy Dehnke each rushed for two scores. Gary gained 148 yards on eight carries with a long run of 68 yards. Dehnke rushed for 56 yards on five carries.

Another senior, Corey Stump, led the receivers with five receptions for 137 yards and a touchdown. Luke Landis caught six passes for 66 yards and a score.

Senior linebacker DeVonta Anderson returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown.

Wittenberg scored five touchdowns of 39 or more yards. The Tigers led 49-0 at halftime. Freshman Cole Johnson closed the scoring with a 60-yard run in the fourth quarter.
