Dayton Flyers will play VMI on Dec. 23

The full 2016-17 non-conference schedule for the Dayton Flyers likely won’t be released until later in the summer, but one opponent has revealed it will play the Flyers.

The Virginia Military Institute will play Dayton at UD Arena on Dec. 23 at a time to be announced. VMI released its non-conference schedule this week.

VMI finished 9-21 last season and 4-14 in the Southern Conference. The Keydets played at Ohio State last December and lost 89-62.

UD is also scheduled to play Northwestern at the United Center on Dec. 27. It will play during Thanksgiving week at the Wooden Legacy tournament in a field that includes UCLA, Nebraska, New Mexico, Portland, Texas A&M, Cal State Northridge and Virginia Tech.

It will play at Alabama and host Vanderbilt. Dates for those games have not been announced.

Pierre news: In other UD basketball news, former Dayton forward Dyshawn Pierre will participate in a Team Canada training camp in Toronto. It began Friday and ends Wednesday.

Nineteen players were selected to compete for a spot on the national team. Twelve will make the final cut.
