Last week, Lefty’s Eatery & Espresso opened in downtown Fairborn. On a rainy Thursday, a cozy, local cafe was an ideal spot for lunch.

As I approached the corner shop, Lefty’s logo was instantly recognizable on large windows, and a noticeable line had formed at the register.
I asked for a menu favorite, or what seemed to be a popular order, before I made my decision: carnitas grilled cheese, Caesar salad and Chai latte it was. The menu offered a variety of savory options, including a black bean vegetarian sandwich. Diners will likely appreciate having the option to order a half or whole serving.
Without the latte, my total would’ve been under $10. Not bad for being fresh and made-to-order. The grilled cheese was delicious. A slight toast on the bread offered the perfect sink-your-teeth-in crunch. Gooey cheese complemented the tasty carnitas, peppers, and onions. The fresh salad, made with a garden blend rather than romaine, gave the meal a nice balance.
A not-too-spicy organic chai latte finished off my meal. The verdict: fresh, tasty, and affordable. Next time I’ll be sure to grab an espresso latte, which features locally-roasted beans.
“We roast our own coffee beans, and also have a great partnership with Reza’s Roast,” said owner Lawren Williams.
Last month, this news organization covered Reza’s Roast opening a shop on Wayne Ave., the growing coffee hot spot in Dayton.
As I ate, I spoke with a retired veteran, a barista named Kristen, and the manager on duty. I watched Williams speak with the seated customers. There was a warm, friendly vibe inside, contrary to the dreary weather outdoors.
I caught up with Williams on our way out the door, where we briefly spoke about what his new shop means for downtown Fairborn.
“We’re trying to do something simple, casual,” he said. I thought this was reflected pretty clearly in their menu, atmosphere and location. I’ll definitely be adding Lefty’s to my growing list of go-to lunch spots.
