Aloha! New food truck bringing food of Paradise, Orient Seas to Dayton

“It is good food. We really love it. My husband is a perfectionist. He works on the menu,”  co-owner says. “Then it is my turn to sell it.”

The flavors of the Aloha State and Pearl of the Orient Seas are coming to a local shopping center’s parking lot.

HaolePino, a 26-foot-long food truck trailer that specializes in  Hawaiian and Filipino Island cuisine, will set up shop 10:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m.  this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10, in the parking lot of Airway Shopping Center, 4916 Airway Road, Riverside, Amanda Vincente said.

The truck made its local debut at a breast cancer awareness event last weekend at Sam’s Club, 3446 Pentagon Boulevard in Beavercreek.

The trailer will be outside of the store 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11.

“It is a family-owned, family-operated business,” the mother of five children ranging from 1 year old to 16 years old, told us. “We love it. It is an adventure.”

Vincente drove the trailer from Panama City, Florida in September to be with her husband, Dr. Martin Vincente, now an Air Force captain stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force base for a  orthopedic surgical fellow.
The couple operated the business in Panama City for about a year and a half.

Their business was put on wheels so it could travel with the family.

Vincente says she and her husband, a Philippines native, fell in love with Hawaiian foods while stationed in that state.

HaolePino features popular Filipino food like Lechon Kawali (a pork belly dish) and Chicken adobo as well as Hawaiian dishes like Kalua pork and Loco Moco, a dish featuring brown gravy, hamburger patty meat, rice and a fried egg.

It also has Spam Musubi (Spam sushi) and Pineapple Dole Whip.

“It is good food. We really love it. My husband is a perfectionist. He works on the menu,” Vincente, a native of Petoskey, Mich. said. “Then it is my turn to sell it.”

The menu will be kept small early on and Vincente expects it to change from time to time.

Oven-baked salmon is one of the dishes local foodies can look forward to trying.

Vincente said the eatery draws people searching for something different and those with ties to either the Philippines or Hawaii, she said.

“I think it’s something that’s unique to the area,” she said. “Most of the people we have come to the trailer are people who have visited Hawaii or were born or have family in the Philippines.”

The couple’s five children even get in on the game.

Their 8-year-old Calla, the little girl featured on the side of the food trailer, has been known to work the trailer’s cash register.

Vincente said the truck will operate at Airway Shopping Center three or four times a week, weather permitting, through winter.

They hope to set up shop at local events and festivals.

“We are just going to enjoy it while we are here, she said. “We are just going to try to bring it to as a many people as we can.”
