HARNER, Jack H.

Jack H. Harner, age 84 of Dayton, Ohio, passed away March 5, 2021. He was born in 1936 to Leland and Muriel Harner in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from Stivers High School in 1953, Jack continued his education at Wilmington College, graduating in 1957 in Education, as well as receiving a master's degree from Xavier University. He was inducted

into the Stivers High School Athletic Hall of Fame for

basketball in 2011. At Wilmington College he was part of the inaugural class of inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame, started every game for four years, set 16 school records and was the greatest basketball player in school history. Jack

retired from Dayton Public Schools after 32 years as a coach, teacher, and counselor. Mr. Harner was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy in 2006; and brother, Dennis in 2011. He is

survived by his son, Joel (Laura) Harner of Ada, MI; daughter, Amy Merlin of Carmel, IN; granddaughters, Emma and

Elizabeth Harner of Ada, MI; sister, Patricia Harner of Waynesville, OH; sister-in-law, Jeanette Bruggeman of

Dayton, OH; and niece, Cristy Grimmet. He will be entombed at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, OH.
