The Yellow Springs Brewery will celebrate the holidays a bit early today with the release of its 2018 Barrel-Aged Maxxdout American Stout in bottles.
The release party starts at 1 p.m. today, Friday Nov. 30, at the brewery’s tasting room at 305 N. Walnut St. in Yellow Springs. The brewery is promising “some surprises” on its tap list today beyond the draught version of the Barrel-Aged Maxxdout Stout.
The 22-ounce “bomber” bottles will be sold for $25.
The stout weighs in at 11.2 percent alcohol. It was aged for seven months in bourbon barrels sourced from Stillwrights Distillery, located in nearby Bath Twp.
“Bourbon is sweet and boozy, and the oak has an earthy/woody flavor, so when you introduce something chocolatey and hoppy, over time they mellow and really complement each other,” head brewer Jayson Hartings said in a release.
“It’s an excellent beer to age in the bottle for a couple years, but it’s great fresh too. Big beers like this are perfect in the winter, to stay in and share with someone over the holidays.”

Yellow Springs Brewery opened in April 2013. Since opening, it has added 1,600 square feet and new production equipment to its brewhouse and tasting room to help accommodate retail sales of canned beers and has purchased the former Village Lanes bowling alley at 1475 Xenia Ave. in Yellow Springs for use as a distribution center.
