On Monday, the TVE morning news program "La Mañana" was discussing the terror attacks in Paris and the resulting French airstrikes in Syria that followed.

But once Abril began to explain the history behind Raqqa, Syria and how it was captured by ISIS militants, he pointed to the fictional Rebel Alliance logo with the al-Qaeda name scribbled beneath it.

Abril apologized on Twitter shortly after.

"This morning I mistook a logo in an explanation during the program. My fault. I am sorry if I offended anyone," he wrote.

But it may have been too late. Twitter users wasted no time pointing out the mistake.
