Welcome Week, which runs through Sunday, is where first-year and transfer students will participate in several programs and current students, the Tiger Team, will help them get used to life on campus, “their home away from home.” During the new student orientation series, they will meet with their first-year seminar teams and resident advisers, build relationships with faculty and staff, engage in residence hall community building, learn the values and mission of the university, attend social events to connect with classmates, and complete final preparations.
“This is the time of year when we get to welcome returning students and especially our new students as we embark on another great year at Wittenberg,” said Jade Jones, associate director of sorority and fraternity life. “Faculty, staff, and our Tiger Team (the Welcome Week leaders) are excited to assist the class of 2028 with opportunities to explore what Springfield and Wittenberg have to provide for them, help connect the new students to Wittenberg’s values and resources, and, most importantly, engage with their peers and professional staff.”
The all-campus move-in will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, followed by welcome receptions throughout the day. Other events include first-generation student, transfer and commuter student welcome and orientations, opening convocation and welcome remarks from several university officials, residence hall meetings and mentalist presentation.
On Friday, there will be a Meet-Your-Community Playfair, education programming, the annual class photo, the president’s reception and dinner, Witt Olympics and Witt After Dark.
Saturday will include educational programs, a downtown Springfield takeover, commitment to community event, theatre and dance showcase and Tigerpalooza.
On Sunday, there will be donuts and fellowship, a cookout, and sports and recreation activities.
