Dayton-area Amazon Prime members can have Whole Foods groceries delivered straight to their door in as little as an hour starting today.

Columbus, Portland, additional areas of New York City and the greater Washington, D.C. area are among the locations being added to the list of 28 cities that Amazon’s Prime Now service covers. The delivery service, which Cincinnati already has, launched earlier this year with plans for continued expansion across the U.S. throughout 2018.

Two-hour delivery is free with a $119 Prime membership as long as an order is more than $35. It will cost $4.99 for two-hour delivery on orders less than $35. Upgrading to one-hour delivery costs $7.99.

“We’ve been delighted with the customer response to delivery in as little as an hour through Prime Now, and we’re excited to bring the service to our customers in Columbus, Dayton, Portland, Greater Washington D.C. and even more neighborhoods in New York City,” said Christina Minardi, Whole Foods Market executive vice president of operations.

Delivery from the Whole Foods Market store at 1050 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Twp. will be available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Prime members are offered special discounts at Whole Foods stores as well as an additional 10 percent off hundreds of sale items. They also receive 5 percent back on Whole Foods Market purchases when using the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card.

Whole Foods also recently announced grocery pickup, which isn’t yet available in Dayton, but is expected to expand throughout 2018. Amazon officially acquired Whole Foods Market in August 2017 in a $13.7 billion deal, shaking up the grocery industry.
