According to investigators, the crash likely occurred around 9 p.m. Sunday and the driver was sitting in knee-deep water inside the car until crews arrived after 1 a.m.
An initial investigation found the driver lost control of his vehicle, slid through a fence line and into the river, according to investigators. He was transported to Soin with minor weather-related illnesses like hypothermia.
The early morning crash was one of several crashes caused by snowfall Sunday night and Monday morning across the region.
Interstate 75 was closed in both directions around 9:40 p.m.at the 78 mile marker, in between Troy and Piqua for injury accidents, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
In Greene County, Feedwire Road was closed at 9:45 p.m. between Little Sugarcreek Road and Adams Place in Sugarcreek Twp. Also, there were reports of four vehicles that slid off into a ditch along Indian Ripple Road near the Trinity Community at Beavercreek.
Other crashes reported included on I-75 South in Moraine and Harrison Twp.; in the 1400 block of West Alex Bell Road in Washington Twp.; on South Torrence Street in Dayton and at Huffman Road; and South Diamond Mill Road in Jefferson Twp.
